P.E.: Types of Body Movements

June 24 – 25, 2013 (Monday and Tuesday)



I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:

     1.    describe, explore, and create body shapes and actions.
     2.    follow the directions of the teacher properly.
         3. demonstrate momentarily stillness in symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes, using body parts   other than both feet as a base of support.

II. Procedure:

A. Introduction
1. Motivation:
*  Let the children sing “Hokey Pokey”.
*  Ask them to do the action as they sing. (Teach the action)
* Then ask them to sing “My Toes, My Knees.”
* Likewise ask them to do the action as they sing. (Teach the action)

2. Statement of the Aim:
In our lesson today, you are expected to describe, explore, and create body shapes and actions, follow the directions of the teacher properly, and demonstrate momentarily stillness in symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes, using body parts other than both feet as a base of support.

B.   Interaction  
1.  Presentation:
* Discuss the actions that they did for the two songs. Let them see that in the first song, they moved from one point to another point through space. In the second song, they just stayed in their own places.
·     
    2. Unlock the terms locomotor and nonlocomotor movements. Let the children see the difference   between these types of movements. Do some locomotor and nonlocomotor movement

3.    Comparison and Abstraction:
     * Present play exercises. To add more fun to the activity, the teacher may form groups and then allow these groups to compete with one another. The winning team or teams will earn merit points.

     4.    Generalization: Answer these questions:
·         What are locomotor movements?
·         Give examples.
·         What are the nonlocomotor movements?
·         Give examples.

     C.   Integration:
     1.    Application:
·         Play the music and let the children do the following exercises to the beat of the music.
a.    Stretch your arms sideward.
b.    Stretch your arms upward.
c.    Stretch your arms sideward.
d.    Put your arms down.
e. Give this activity 16 counts and then ask the children to sit down.

     2.    Valuing:
    Emphasize the importance of following directions 

     3.    Evaluation: Practical test on the locomotor and nonlocomotor movements

     4.    Assignment:
Study for a quiz (Locomotor and Nonlocomotor movements)
